Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 – 1900) was a German philosopher, whose critiques of contemporary culture, religion, and philosophy centred on a basic question regarding the foundation of values and morality. He wrote extensively on truth, morality, language, aesthetics, cultural theory, history, nihilism, power, consciousness, and the meaning of existence – all of which have exerted an enormous influence on Western philosophy and intellectual history.
